Dr Henry Nowlan

Dr. Henry Nowlan is a General Practitioner who has a special interest in skin cancer medicine. Dr. Nowlan holds an Advanced Clinical Certificate in Skin Cancer Medicine & Surgery. He performs skin checks and surgeries at Kiama Medical Practice. He is an Accredited Skin Cancer Doctor with Skin Cancer College Australiasia, which involves completing a 3 year training program with practical components and a final exam. He is a fellow of the Royal Australian College of General Practice (FRACGP) and graduated with First Class Honours in a Bachelor of Medicine/Bachelor of Surgery from the University of Tasmania in 2010.

$120 (Medicare Rebate $41.40)

Gap=$78.60


Biopsy of skin:


$108- $138 (Medicare Rebate 48.90)

Gap=$59.10- $89.10


Excision of skin cancer:


$400 - $700 (depending on site and complexity) Medicare rebates vary.

Gap=$250-$350


Flaps and grafts will incur extra fees due to the complexity of the procedure and dressings.

Skin Checks

Skin Surgery

Wound Care

-Skin checks are conducted in a private consultation room.

-Please wear loose fitting clothing and shoes which are easy to remove.

A nurse maybe assisting Dr Nowlan with the skin check.

-Specific skin lesions maybe photographed with your consent.

-Biopsies maybe taken on the day of the skin check.

Skin surgery is conducted in a surgical suite. Please wear loose fitting clothing which can be removed/ adjusted. Please seek Dr Henry Nowlan’s advice regarding the use of blood thinners. Generally

1) Aspirin is safe to continue taking

2) NOACs (apixiban, dabigatran, rivaroxaban) should be withheld on the morning of the surgery.

Surgical wounds are dressed with an appropriate dressing.

Surgical wounds should be kept clean and dry for up to 1 week.

The application of silicon base gels after dressing and suture removal helps to minimise surgical scars.
